Welcome to The (New) Daily Plumbob!

First of all, welcome! I hope you enjoy yourself while you’re browsing The Daily Plumbob. I know I’ve been enjoying myself playing the game, so I hope you’ll have as much fun reading the gameplay stories. If you’re interested in how I started this save game, I’ve started a page called Where It All Began which will feature some older pictures from before I started actually documenting this save.

What’s a Gameplay Story? I have no idea if this is considered a ‘thing’ or not but I’m using the term ‘gameplay story’ to denote the fact that this is not a linear story. It has no start, middle or end, it’s not intended to tell any particular story or highlight anything in particular. The gameplay drives the stories forward. Each household has their own individual story which often overlaps another household and then another until it becomes mildly soap-opera like. I don’t plan any of their relationships, family sizes or even where they’re going to live in advance.

Are the Sims posed at all? Most of the time, no. I tend to grab screenshots from the activities of the Sims themselves. Sometimes, Sims will be posed via selfies or WickedWhims but most posing will only be for in-game photos.

Do you use mods? Yes, I do. Quite a lot now, as time’s gone on. They’re adding more and more fascinating ideas for me to play around with and therefore providing new story ideas all the time! For a basic list of the mods I’m using, feel free to check out my Gameplay pages; I regularly update these pages to reflect mods I’m using to achieve certain gameplay styles.

    Hello!
    Sorry to bother, but I recently installed your Hobby Mod (updated on the 9th of December to Version 3.3.1.4) and I have also your Personality Mod, Custom Wants/whims Mod and the Hopes and Fears Mod.
    Since the latest patch I’ve been experiencing some kind of bug/error with bartenders and other staff NPCs not working properly. Especially bartenders spawn but they sit around instead of tending the bar.
    I’m aware there’s some kind of bug coming with ‘For Rent’ not being fully compatible with fame and the workaround is to enable fame, but I already play with fame on, so, in my case, that doesn’t seem to be the problem.
    So I’ve been troubleshooting the game and my mods the past few days and it appears my bartenders bug was caused by the optional files folder in your Hobby Mod. I’m not sure if that was conflicting with other mods or your own mods, but I had really few mods left for a quicker process in troubleshooting. I removed those optional files and now staff NPCs work just fine.
    I Just wanted to let you know. Sorry again for bothering and thank you so much for your hard and wonderful work!

    2. Apologies for the delay, I’ve been sick with the flu this week.
      You should have deleted everything relating to The Hobby Mod when you updated to the latest version. That’s why I’ve temporarily removed one of the files (mentioned in the 29th November update notes) while I’m in the process of fixing it.

      I recommend deleting everything relating to The Hobby Mod and redownloading it. I do advise this every time an update it done because version numbers change and the new files don’t override old ones.

      1. That was actually the first time I installed the Hobby Mod, after EA’s latest patch and after your updates on the 9th of December, so I didn’t override old files.

      3. It appears to be the optional files:
        MissyHissy_TheHobbyMod_Optional_ClubRequirements
        MissyHissy_TheHobbyMod_Optional_CustomPreferences

        Once removed the folder containing those, the mod works just fine, cause obviously those were “optional” for a reason ^^ and my NPCs went back to their normal work.
        (I mean, the mod worked fine with them too, but maybe those two files conflicted with something in my game, not sure how and why)

        Anyway, it’s no big deal, I just thought to let you know. If nobody else had similar problems, I guess it was a issue on my end and since the mod it’s working just fine – and I don’t mind using it without those optional features -, problem solved! 🙂

  2. Hello MissyHissy, it turns out I’ve been using your Want’s & Fears mod for a while, the version I had broke with the latest update, but the current one appears to working fine. Since I was stopped by I grabbed a couple other mods. The Telescope indoors mod in particular. I’m running the Scenario for Nova Curious and I like to put her in apartments. She’s in 19 Culpepper House in San Myshuno Spice Market. I put her telescope on the balcony and it continues to say I can’t use it indoors. I don’t know if this is a conflict with apartments, or something else I have running, but I don’t know why anything else I have would interfere.

    2. Okay I’ve had a look and there’s been no change to the code.
      Double check you’ve got the mod installed; the fact that the notice is coming up to say it can’t be used indoors implies the game isn’t reading my mod because I removed that notice.
      Additionally, clear out your caches before launching. That can sometimes help.
      Let me know how you get on!

      1. That’s unfortunate. It’s just the package file, right? I’ve got that in my Overrides folder under Mods. I’ll try clearing the cache, but I suspect it must be another mod interfering then. I just have no idea which one. Thanks for confirming, though.

    I am very glad to read that you still have fun with modding and are still inspired. I don´t know which drama occurred and I do not give a rats ass knowing those performative toxic members of the community I keep away from – from a greying long-time adult simmer I love your mods, they bring so much more depth to the sims and are fun to play with.

  5. Oh my plumming Watcher I am SO glad I found this place! I was very, very sad when I found out you deleted stuff from ModtheSims because… ugh. I don’t have any idea what this whole drama is about and I don’t CARE. Your mods are THE BEST for fixing the pathetic mess that is Sims wants and nothing can change that.

    So what I’m saying is thank you for still making an update and having it available somewhere. Thank you so, so much! ❤
